Revamping an Outdated Deck into a Modern, Functional Outdoor Retreat
The goal for this Niwot home was to completely overhaul a cramped, outdated outdoor space that lacked both comfort and functionality. The original setup—a small wood deck with an aging pergola and a tiny Juliet deck—didn’t provide enough space for relaxation or entertainment, and the homeowners needed a solution that would create an inviting, usable retreat.
To address this, we expanded the deck’s footprint, creating a larger, more open space that is ideal for hosting and enjoying outdoor living. We upgraded to Deckorators composite decking in Voyage Tundra with a Sierra picture frame border, providing a low-maintenance, durable surface that will look great for years to come.
A custom patio cover was added, designed to offer both shade and protection, making the deck usable year-round regardless of weather. The original Juliet deck was transformed from a mere decorative feature into a much larger, functional space, adding both style and practicality to the home’s exterior.
The finished result is a spacious, elegant outdoor area perfect for relaxing, dining, and entertaining. The custom patio cover ensures comfort regardless of the season, while the Trex Rain Escape dry system keeps the space below dry, creating an additional functional outdoor living space. With these thoughtful design elements and premium materials, we turned an underused backyard into a stylish, multi-level retreat.
