Crafting Resilience in the Rockies
The rugged environment of Estes Park demands a structure that matches the strength of the surrounding peaks. O’Keefe Built addressed a failing, weathered deck that had become a liability against the harsh Colorado climate.
Weathering the Storm
The original deck had reached the end of its lifespan. Worn by intense UV exposure and heavy snow loads, the wood was splintering, compromising its structural integrity. The homeowners needed a solution that would survive the mountain environment without the constant burden of sanding or staining.
Strength from the Ground Up
Stability starts beneath the surface. We began by removing the old timber and installing PWT engineered framing. Unlike traditional lumber, PWT resists warping and rot, which are common in high-altitude zones, providing a level, rigid skeleton for the new design.
High-Performance Materials
To handle the Serenity Summit location, we selected a palette of materials designed for durability and aesthetic depth:
- The Surface: We installed Deckorators Voyage in the Costa shade, which offers superior traction, vital for icy mornings, and features virtually no thermal expansion.
- The Accent: A Sedona picture frame border defines the perimeter, adding a crisp finish to the layout.
- The Perimeter: We opted for Deckorators ALX Welded Aluminum Railing in Bronze. The slim, pre-welded panels provide a modern look that frames the horizon rather than blocking it.
A Maintenance-Free Horizon
The final result is a high-performance outdoor living area that thrives in the alpine air. By combining PWT technology with mineral-based composites, the homeowners now have a space that remains stable under the sun and grippy in the rain.
